What are they?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that replaces a missing natural tooth in the jaw.
Then, a restoration such as a porcelain crown, dental bridge, or denture can be fitted on top.

Why Implants?

You may choose dental implants if you:

  • Hide your smile because you have missing teeth.

  • Wear dentures that are uncomfortable.

  • Are dissatisfied with your removable partial dentures.

  • Want to keep your other teeth intact.

Cosmetic & Restorative Uses

Replaces a single tooth

  • A crown is attached to its own implant.

Replace multiple teeth

  • Each missing tooth is replaced by a crown attached to its own implant.

  • One or all teeth can be replaced with single implants, if the patient qualifies or is candidate for implants.

  • Another option could be using a fixed bridge supported on two or three implants to replace two or more missing teeth.

Replace all teeth - Fixed Option

  • A fixed prosthesis is securely attached to two, four or six implants.

  • It is a permanent prosthesis and removable only by the dentist.

Replace all teeth - Removable Option

  • A removable overdenture is attached to several implants to give stability.

  • The denture won't slip or shift in the mouth.

  • An overdenture is attached to the implants using a ball in socket system or locators.

  • It is a removable prosthesis that patient removes to clean and sleep.

The Surgical Procedures

Implant treatment usually involves three basic steps:

Placement of the Implant

  • The dentist surgically places the implant within the jawbone.

  • It may be possible to place a temporary restoration on the same day.

Healing Process

  • The patient's bone starts growing around the implant and hold the implant in place.

  • The process time varies, usually 3 to 6 months.

Placement of the Prosthesis

  • A custom-made permanent crown, bridge or denture is attached to the implant post.
